ABOUT DR. YOSHIHARA
Dr. Yoshihara earned his medical degree at Nagoya City University Medical School in Japan. He went on to complete both his residency and orthopedic internship at Nagoya City University Medical School, becoming one of Japan’s youngest Board-certified spine surgeons, before overseeing extensive research into regeneration of the post-injury spinal cord at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. This research helped Dr. Yoshihara to earn a PhD from Nagoya City University Graduate School. He has completed multiple fellowships, including a spine surgery fellowship at Niigata Spine Surgery Center and Hokkaido University; a clinical spine and scoliosis surgery fellowship at Hospital for Special Surgery, one of the most esteemed orthopedic hospitals in the United States; and additional clinical spine surgery fellowships at the University of Colorado and NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases.
With Dr. Yoshihara’s love of research and knowledge not forgotten, he has also published dozens of first-author articles, papers and texts and quickly became one of the most first-author published spine surgeons in the world. With expertise in a wide range of cervical, thoracic and lumbar spinal diseases and deformities, orthopedic surgery and minimally invasive techniques including endoscopic spine surgery, Dr. Yoshihara is one of the most accomplished and trained spine surgeons.
Dr. Yoshihara is the only one double board certified orthopaedic surgeon both in the US and Japan (ABOS and JOA). He is dedicated to helping patients across the globe regain their quality of life through compassion, expertise and the latest knowledge and innovation.

“My mother’s family have been physicians for more than 500 years and many of my closest relatives also practice medicine. I'm a 15th generation physician and 10 out of 18 children/grandchildren of my mother's father are physicians. Earlier generation served a feudal lord as a physician in Sadohara domain. Great-great-grandfather learned from a Dutch physician, Dr. Johannes Lijdius Catharinus Pompe van Meerdervoort, in Nagasaki and Great-grandfather learned from an English physician, Dr. William Willis, in Kagoshima. From an early age, I was interested in a career as a physician. I also enjoyed playing a variety of sports, so becoming an orthopedic surgeon was the natural fit. During my residency, most of my mentors were spine surgeons and I had undergone lumbar discectomy surgery 2 times myself, so I was drawn to a sub-specialty in spine. Since then, I have learned philosophy, knowledge and advanced surgical techniques from dozens of the world’s leading spine surgeons. I continue to learn each day as technology and medicine advances, which motivates me to be the best surgeon for my patients.”

Great-grandfather in family tree who learned from an English physician, Dr. William Willis, in Kagoshima.
